This is a site that a found a ways back where a couple have transcribed and amazing amount of records and put them on their website while they were doing their family genealogy. Maybe you will find it as useful as other people have.
The homepage for this website is here: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sandlier/fmlytree.htm
Parish records for St. Bartholomew Church are on this page:[an example of the the type of records on the site] http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~polishrecords/leki.htm
Of course there are the LDS sites:
http://www.familysearch.org/
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=0
And you might find something on Cyndi’s List:

There is only so much you can do online fee or free, not everything is transcribed or put onto databases, so you need to look at records as well……….familysearch.org will have some records, however be aware the IGI is not only a collection of Worldwide parish records but also donated records which are not verified and many are completely incorrect, so anything you find on there get the record resource number so you can check it for yourself and tat can be done in the LSD family records centres or the National Archives for Poland

Check local church records, if you know where your family attended. Many Polish immigrants were Catholic and local churches will have the records. There are a wide variety of resources available for Jewish ancestry as well. Typically the church records are the most reliable for village names, especially when working with churches that are ethnically Polish. Immigration records/passenger lists might help and naturalization papers can be helpful as well. I would check these local sources before you move into larger resources that you have to pay for.
You can check LDS online, but their records on Polish families are limited. I would stop by and visit your local LDS Family History Center which will have microfilms on local records and you will have the ability to order records from Salt Lake City for a small fee. They also have access to Ancestry.com and other pay sites, free of charge.
Best of luck!

Are you weary (tired) paying?
Or are you wary (meaning cautious)?
In any case go to the free site at Ellis Island and search for the name…. if it does not come up then try "sounds like".
Ellis Island is FREE, they will ask you to sign up…. but this is FREE The link below is to Stephen Morse One Step Search, which is THE BEST way to search Ellis Island records…. Dr Morse invented the 8086 PC processor… granddaddy to the Pentium.

Also here is a very good web page about Polish Roots, which is also FREE…… Keep in mind nothing is truly FREE someone researched the info, transcribed the info and created and paid for a web page for that info….!
