because american women are lied to from an early age about what they can achieve, even a few weeks ago our illustrious president told a class of junior high pupils that "they can be anything they want to be " and that is simply not true it is very unfair to tell that to children because without the necessary ability or talent they can’t achieve anything same for women it is incredibly hard to have a career, have children and have a family life, yet they are constantly being told from an early age that it’s easy and feel guilty or stressed as a result

Both genders are less stressed in other countries I’m sure. And I’m pretty sure there are plenty of people in third world countries who are more stressed out than Americans, but for good reason.

America doesn’t treat its working class well at all. http://www.alternet.org/economy/61122/

Also, when people get stressed here, they eat. That leads to obesity, which leads to more stress.

Members of both genders are screwed over by economics on a daily basis in America.

If they want to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table, a lot of people have to slave away at jobs they don’t even like, and a lot of jobs force people into doing things which go against their morals which in turn causes more stress. I know that for me there’s often just not enough time in the day to accomplish everything I need to get done. My college professors all expect me to not only read, but retain 50+ pages of material a day (that amounts to 500 pages a week if I actually did all of that reading), write 10 page papers and a number of smaller papers every other week or so, shoot and edit video projects, and meet up with groups to work on stupid group presentations and projects that all of my professors are suddenly keen on. I now share a car with my sister who’s recently started going to college at another school, so I spend several hours a day driving her around and sitting around waiting for her to get out, and then I get to come home and work (I work online thankfully).

And society wants me to fit marriage and birthing/raising a child somewhere into the mix too. Hah! Like I have time to even think about dating these days.

We’re essentially a culture dominated by money and sex all while we pretend to be a culture based on wholesome Christian values. I hate America sometimes; I want out…oh yeah, leaving costs money too.

I think people in other countries face the same or greater difficulties but Americans often lack a sense of communities and values. They lack a sense of belonging, family and culture and so they see their worth in terms of material things and attracting a mate and obsess on these things and comparing themselves to others.

Americans are more stressed out than people from other countries these days.

Example: The French are in the streets protesting en masse because the government raised the pension age for public sector employees from 60 to 62. I think in the US its been age 65 since forever.

American women work much harder than their European counterparts.

They not only hold down paid jobs – often fulltime jobs – but they end up stuck with the bulk of domestic duties and child care. Europeans have better access to social programs and workers have better benefits (including maternity/paternity benefits).

However, women in developing countries are of course more stressed out than women in developed countries.
