Why do vampires seem to be so much more popular than dragons?

A lot of the vampire books are written with the vampire in some sort of romantic light, be it that they’re really good somewhere deep down, described as a gorgeous young man/woman, trapped forever in youth at, let’s face it, his/her sexual prime, or that he/she is actually the love interest in the story. Not to mention that a lot of people like to imagine themselves in the story, and just as in popular music, falling in love is much more prevalant than fighting a legion of evil in the mind of a lot of listeners /readers. and the fact that vampires start out as humans until they’re raptured into this alternate state of being, thus leading a secret life makes it easier to relate to the character since, in a way, dont most of us lead some sort of secret life? dont most of us wish we could get out of our routine and have an alter-ego who’s cooler than us, stronger than us and kicks way more butt way harder than we could ever hope to? It’s much more rare for a dragon to be portrayed in the same light as vampires. they’re almost always cool looking, and have awesome powers, but they’re at most a pet or cherished companion. Plus, humans like to watch beautiful humans. It’s a lot easier to relate to another human than it is to a giant flying reptile. The extra layer of romantic possibility/ human element that is usually the final touch that pushes vampires above dragons in terms of popularity. plus, it’s a lot easier, once the film aspect rolls around to stick a set of plastic fangs in a girls grill and hand her a compact full of white face powder than it is to cgi an entire cast member.

Depends on the quality of the movie. Twilight was and still is a very popular series of books.

Two words: Robert Pattinson

It’s not really a matter of popularity, it’s just, more people were aware of Twilight than Eragon. I personally like Twilight (never read the books but like the movie) because it’s dramatic and pretty cool overall. I also like Eragon because of it’s use of old myths,dragons,knights,bows, but most people just aren’t into the old middle age kinda thing ya know?

Beucase vampire have this sence of mystrey about them that dragons don’t, they are also human looking and also It seems to be ‘excitting’ to read about vampires ( beucase they are usesly written to be beautiful).

i don’t know. probably because of twilight. dragons are kickass though.

because it is more plausible that vampires exist than dragons. people enjoy thinking the "what if" game. that is done alot with vamps, but infrequently with dragons as they are thought of as nerdy and fantastical creatures. also, they don’t have as good a PR person as vampires.

its easier to see a dragon coming meanwhile vampires and so hot that your pretty much stunned into not moving though not that you mentions it i see what you mean eragon always makes me crave sourdough bread and cheese for some reason…and vampires seem a little more real With all the novels going around when no one notices the vampires living around them but if a dragon was your next door neighbor you would notice..i think did you notice eragon is just dragon but with an e instead of a d spell check just told me eragon is probably a spelling mistake.. haha

Simple really, vampires are sexy and make good romance stories. Blame Bram Stoker, he made vampires a sex symbol lol. If dragons were 6 ft with washboard abs and Abercrombie model faces then teenage girls would have stacks of D&D books in their rooms just for the pictures

well first of all, dragons can’t talk.they can’t communicate like humans (or vampires for that matter).a human can never actually fall in love with a dragon(hello! one of the reason people like Twilight is because it’s a love story).
vampires are dangerous,smart and cute. they’re just great!

Hey, i totally agree with u- dragons are a lot cooler than vampires. the thing about vampires is that all these teens are reading twilight and they go see the movie and there all like," omg, vampires are so awesome and every thing and i luv edward cullen, and stuff, ya no?" i think dragons are wayyyyyyyy cooler than vampires and the eragon books and movie were wayyyyyyy better than twilight! i think everyone should go gaga over eragon rather than twilight…

theyre popular because they are an improvement on the human species, and thats what people wanna be. faster stronger more powerful really. they arent popular because of the whole i could kill u in a second thing its like people wanting to be powerful. also they have been romanticized in a way dragons cant be because they are nont humanoid. i hope this makes sense lol its jsut psychology lol.
